When is IVF necessary?

Each IVF journey is unique and entirely dependent on your expectations and medical history. In the case of heterosexual couples without a history of infertility problems, it is recommended to try to conceive naturally for at least one year before consulting a fertility specialist. However, when fertility issues have been detected, such as low ovarian reserve, endometriosis, or cancer, we suggest consulting a fertility specialist without delay. Egg donation is not a "treatment" per se, but rather an alternative, as it does not treat the underlying cause of infertility, but rather bypasses it to allow for the creation of a family in a different way. There are multiple indications for using egg donation. These include: - Non-functional ovaries. In this case, the woman is unable to produce her own eggs. This anomaly can be present from birth or develop over time. This is referred to as premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). The causes of POI are numerous. Some are genetic, others are secondary to ovarian surgery or medical interventions such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy, or immune problems. However, in the majority of cases, there is no determined cause: this is referred to as "idiopathic" POI. - Functional ovaries, but they do not respond to ovarian stimulation or the quality of the eggs is insufficient to hope for a pregnancy. - Functional ovaries that produce eggs, but egg donation is an alternative if women are at risk of passing on a serious genetic disease to their offspring.
