The story of Elena and Sara

Elena and Sara had been together for over ten years and had always shared a strong desire to start a family, but they hadn't decided to do so before due to work issues. A few months ago, they came to our clinic to seek advice on treatment options. 

Elena was 34 years old at the time, and Sara was 38. We asked them to evaluate their ovarian reserve to recommend the best treatment option. Elena had an AMH test that showed a level of 1.9 and an ultrasound to assess her ovarian reserve with 9+9 follicles. Sara also had an AMH test that showed a level of 0.7 and an evaluation of her ovarian reserve with 3+4 follicles.

 We explained to both of them that Elena had a good ovarian reserve and that she was at an age where most of her eggs could be of good quality. On the other hand, we explained to Sara that her ovarian reserve was low and that due to her age, her eggs might not be of such good quality. At that moment, Sara broke down in tears because she really wanted to be the one carrying the baby. We explained that we could always try with her eggs, but in her case, there was another option: the ROPA method.

 This method involves ovarian stimulation for Elena, inseminating her eggs with a donor sperm sample, and transferring an embryo to Sara, with the rest being frozen for future use. This method allows both women to actively participate in the process.

Sara could thus fulfill her dream of getting pregnant. Both of them loved this option because they didn't know it was possible, and for them, it was wonderful to be able to experience shared motherhood. This is what they did, and everything turned out well. Elena was stimulated, and 19 eggs were collected. 16 mature eggs were inseminated with a donor sample, and 11 were fertilized. 

These embryos were left in culture, and 5 reached the blastocyst stage (D5). Sara had a natural cycle transfer of a good-quality embryo, and after 10 days, they received very good news: the result was positive, marking the beginning of an exciting shared pregnancy adventure.
